Hi, I’m Jenn (and This Is the Part Where I Tell You How I Got Here)

Hi, I’m Jennifer Huffman, but almost everyone calls me Jenn.
And before we talk about business, systems, or virtual assisting, let’s start with something important: I didn’t take a traditional path to becoming a CEO. Not even close.
For nearly 20 years, my primary role wasn’t in an office or on a résumé, it was at home. I was a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling three amazing children, managing schedules, lesson plans, meals, activities, and approximately one million moving parts that came with raising a family.
At the same time, I was (and still am) a military wife. My husband served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, which meant constant changes, and a life that required flexibility, adaptability, and a whole lot of organization.
Because of his military career, I chose to stay home with our kids and homeschool them, a decision I’m incredibly grateful for. But it also meant being out of the traditional workforce for two full decades.
And yes, that’s a long time.
Turns Out, I Was Building Skills the Whole Time
Here’s the funny thing: while I wasn’t building a corporate résumé, I was building systems.
Homeschooling isn’t just teaching subjects, it’s logistics. Planning. Tracking. Communication. Adapting when things don’t go as planned (which is… often). It’s project management with snacks.
Somewhere along the way, I realized something about myself: My brain is very admin-heavy.
I love organization. I love clear communication. I love knowing where things live, what’s next, and how to make chaos feel manageable. I find calm in structure, not rigid structure, but thoughtful, intentional systems that actually work for real people.
Finding My Way Back Into the Workforce
When the time came for me to step back into professional work, I didn’t do it by squeezing myself into a box that didn’t fit. I found my way back through virtual assisting, and it felt like everything clicked.
Virtual assisting allowed me to combine:
My love for organization
My strength in communication
My ability to anticipate needs
And my natural inclination to support others behind the scenes
It wasn’t about “just doing tasks.” It was about helping people function better, creating clarity where things felt scattered and supporting leaders so they could focus on what mattered most.
Why J. Lee Collective Exists
J. Lee Collective was born out of this belief: Good systems create peace. Clear communication builds trust. And details matter more than people think.
I didn’t build this business because I wanted to hustle louder or do more for the sake of being busy. I built it because I’ve seen how transformative thoughtful support can be, especially for leaders who are carrying too much.
This space, this blog, will be where I share pieces of that journey. Sometimes practical. Sometimes reflective. Always honest.
If you’re someone who values clarity, structure, and working with intention, welcome.
You’re in the right place.
— Jenn
